![]() I think there is a line between the real world and the theatre wedding world that we're wavering on it's either too much or not quite enough. I'm thinking about the first dance into the dinner. SCENE The couple are sitting in a circle with all of their friends and then they stand, ready for their first dance together. The MC announces "Mrs and Mrs _____ " and then the music begins. The song is an awkward mix of two songs that they both chose separately and then asked a DJ to mix and surprise them! So the dance starts with "Power of Two" by the Indigo Girls and then it mashes into "Call me Maybe" by Carly Rae Jepsem, It's gross, it's painful, it's perfect and artful... So is it too much, or not quite enough??? And then the wedding crew pulls the black out curtains and the venue goes dark, the DJ lights come up and suddenly we are transitioning seamlessly into late night dance party. "As Long as you Love Me" by 'Nsync comes up and the whole audience is dancing because 90s kids are the target demographic.
And then the wedding crew moves around the tables and chairs and it's like everyone is onstage, as the lights go down, the set is changed and when the lights come back up, it's dinner. The bride and broom have left to do their family photoshoot outside and the set is now a dining room with 3 long banquet tables. The music settles down and the MC calls the first able to eat. It's such an adventure scening up what else can be done to make the audience question whether they've really slipped into a wedding, or sat down to a show. In my fantasy, someone buys a ticket to The Wedding Show and pays for a plus one. And then they meet someone and ask them to come out to a wedding. And they they don't say that it's a show, not a real wedding, and then this person arrives and really believes it is a wedding from start to finish. There will be no finale with applause. There will be no formal start. You can leave whenever you want. The cast will be in character the whole time. The food is real. They drinks are 18% abv and fortified. The drag queen and dj are real life drag queens and djs. It's pretty darn believable, I think.

This sounds like an incredibly immersive experience.
