Casting Call!

Cast and Crew wanted!

What is The Wedding Show?
The Wedding Show is a 3-hour immersive theatre production where audience members (“guests”) participate in a wedding reception, ceremony, and party. The event is similar to a murder mystery, set in the style of a hypertext drama where the “guests” move about and interact with the actors, following a storyline of their choice. The Wedding Show offers the guests all the best parts of a wedding including lawn games, laughs, love, drama, a buffet dinner, toasts and dancing.

Actors will improvise and interact with "guests" throughout the evening, performing songs, dancing, and acting out key moments.
"Guests" will have opportunities to participate in specific components of the show.

This will be a collaboratively created show where the cast work in small groups to develop special elements and gags. Every performance will be a little different based on the guest interactions and choices made by the actors. Cast and crew are encouraged to bring their own wedding traditions and stories to the performance.  It's also queer friendly!

Performance Dates: July 20/21/22/27/28/29, 2023

Rehearsal Dinner: July 12, 2023

Location: The Cherry Arts, Ithaca NY

Pay range: $50-$200 per performance

Produced and directed by Sylvie Froncek

CHARACTERS
Bride/Broom
21-40 years old, any gender/ethnicity/sexual orientation
The couple met while traveling, fell in love fast and to the family, this appears to be a shotgun wedding. They learn unexpected details about each other throughout the evening. These are the most likeable people in the show. The "broom" has a lot of charisma and they're a bit of a jack of all trades. The "bride" is a little woo-woo.  Actors must be comfortable with improvisational comedy, humor, drama, airbanding and partner dancing.

Father of the Bride
35+ years old, male-identifying, any ethnicity
The bride’s gay father is a doting and proud parent. He has two children, both of which are at the wedding, and both are mini-divas. The father is a little over the top, but genuine. He vaguely remembers everyone that he interacts with during the night and he is generally enthusiastic and engaged in the event.  Actor must be comfortable with improvisational comedy, humor, excessive drama and partner dancing.

Mother of the Groom
35+ years old, female-identifying, any ethnicity
The mother of the groom is widowed and remarried but her current husband never shows up at the wedding. She’s overbearing, and very involved in many aspects of the event. She is suspicious of the whole affair and throughout the night she may get progressively more drunk/jovial/accusatory. Actor must be comfortable with improvisational comedy, humor and drama, partner dancing.

Wedding party/best friend/maid of honor/groomsman
21-40 years old, all genders/ethnicities/sexual orientations
The wedding party is made up of the best friends of the bride/groom. They are entangled in drama, and trying to create more chaos throughout the night. They may be in love with the bridge/groom and they know intimate details about their lives that the partner may not be privy to. They may be in love with other members of the cast, like the mother of the groom, or the sister of the bride. They pull guests into their schemes and disrupt things throughout the evening. Actors must be comfortable with improvisation, comedy, drama, singing, partner dancing.

Sister of the bride
21-40 years old, all genders/ethnicities/sexual orientations
The sister of the bride is happy, helpful and at times she may steal the show with stories about her sister. She gets along with everyone and engages guests. Actors must be comfortable with improvisation, comedy, drama, singing, partner dancing.

MC/Host/Officiant
21-60 years old, all genders/ethnicities/orientations
The host of the evening! They are enthusiastic, charming, eccentric, confident and attentive, yet unaware of the social dynamics in the room. They don't know many people at the wedding, so they mix up or make up facts but they do it all in good humor. They keep everyone on schedule. Actor must be very organized because they essentially run the show by prompting people to move between the reception, ceremony, dinner and dance floor. They must be comfortable with improvisational comedy and singing.

Wedding Crasher
21+ years old, all genders/ethnicities/orientations
Can the guests spot the Wedding Crasher? This person is a Wedding connoisseur, and they've just come for the party. They know no one but they act like a friend to everyone. They leave no rock unturned when it comes to plumbing the depths of what is possible at a wedding. They bring a huge amount of enthusiasm to the show.

CREW (also required to act in the performances)

Stage Manager/ Wedding Planner

Creative, nimble, enthusiastic, and tireless stage manager wanted! This paid role will include stage building, set creation, prop coordination, venue set up/clean up, and aiding the cast as needed. This person will also have the opportunity to be in the show, as the Wedding Planner. Despite their skill behind the scenes, as the Wedding Planner they're just trying to keep their head above water, as it were. They started their career as a Wedding Planner right before COVID, so their experience is mostly in Zoom weddings and they encounter a steep learning curve when it comes to in-person events. Some theatre experience is appreciated but not required.

Assistant Director/ Photographer
The AD will be a key part of the decision making process for The Wedding Show. This person should be flexible, open-minded, motivational, supportive and revolutionary. The AD will help run auditions, coach the cast, and keep rehearsals moving along. The AD will be in the performance as the Photographer. They like getting in the thick of things, staging photos, inviting guests to be in family photos and directing people around the set.  Creating art is the most important thing to them and nothing gets in their way.

Assistant Producer/ Wedding Planner's Apprentice
The AP is a go-getter who is down for making some phone calls, doing a few some quick math, and placing a bulk order of kazoos if need be. They will work closely with the producer on the planning and promotional side of the show. During the performance they will be the Wedding Planner's Apprentice who is available to support whoever needs an extra hand. They're more capable than the Wedding Planner and it's obvious, but they'd never say that out loud.
